Support
Write to hello@flymyroute.com. I make Fly My Route on my own and read every email myself. Tell me your iPhone model, its iOS version and what you were doing, and add a screenshot or a screen recording if you can. In the app, Settings › Help & Support › Email support writes in the model and the versions for you.
Making your first film
- Make your avatar: start from a ready look, change what you like, tap Use this look.
- Pick the activity: Apple Health for a workout recorded with a route, or A file for a GPX, FIT or TCX file.
- The Studio plays a preview. Change the look, camera, length, title, figures or trim if you want.
- Tap Create. The film is drawn on your iPhone in a few minutes; keep the app open.
- Share it, or save it to Photos.
Activities
My workouts don't show up from Apple Health.
The app lists outdoor runs, walks, hikes and rides that have a GPS route in Apple Health. Some watches don't send routes to Apple Health: Garmin, COROS, Polar and Suunto send the workout without its route. For those, export the activity as a file (below). If you didn't allow access, turn it on in Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Fly My Route.
How do I get a file of my activity?
Most watch apps and training sites can export an activity as GPX, FIT or TCX, usually from the activity's menu (for Garmin Connect and Strava this is on their websites). Save the file to Files and pick it in Fly My Route with New video › Files › Import a file, or share it straight to Fly My Route from the app or from Mail.
I have a race's course file without times.
Import it as it is. The Studio asks how long you took and spreads that time along the course.
A file won't open.
The app reads GPX, FIT and TCX. If it can't read one, it says which file and why. Send me the file if you think it should work.
Making films
Why does a film take a few minutes?
Every frame is drawn on your iPhone, over Apple's map, and nothing is uploaded. Keep Fly My Route open while it works. If you leave the app, the film pauses and carries on from where it stopped when you come back.
The map stays grey, or the film pauses saying the map isn't loading.
The map comes from Apple over the internet. Check your connection and tap Continue. The app never writes grey frames into a film; it waits instead.
I don't see a 3D city.
Apple has photo-real 3D cities in many places, not everywhere. Elsewhere the Real look shows satellite imagery and terrain. The Day and Night looks work everywhere.
My iPhone got warm and the film slowed down.
That is on purpose: when the iPhone is warm the app draws more slowly to let it cool, and tells you so.
Can I hide where I live?
Yes. Films of your own activities hide the first and last 300 m by default. Change it for one film with the Studio's Privacy tool, or for all new films in Settings › Hide start and end. Distance and time still count the whole activity.
Saving and sharing
Saving to Photos doesn't work.
The app only asks to add to your photo library. If you said no, allow it in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos › Fly My Route › Add Photos Only. Your film stays in the app either way.
Instagram Stories
Stories take up to 20 seconds, so Share offers to make a 15-second version of a longer film.
Fly My Route Pro
What does Pro add?
The Cinematic and Bird's-eye cameras, 45-second films, the whole wardrobe and films without the "made with Fly My Route" line. Making and sharing films stays free, in every map look.
I bought Pro and don't have it, or I have a new iPhone.
Tap Restore Purchases on the Pro screen or in Settings, signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with.
How do I cancel?
In the app: Settings › Manage Subscription. Or in the Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge. On the yearly plan's 3-day free trial, cancelling before the trial ends means you're not charged.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles payments and refunds: https://reportaproblem.apple.com
New-run alerts
Turn them on in Settings, with Apple Health connected and notifications allowed for Fly My Route. When Apple Health gets a new activity with a route, your iPhone shows a nudge to make its film.
Backup and your account
Do I need an account?
No. The app works without signing in. Sign in with Apple only if you want your avatar, your films' settings and your imported files backed up, so a new iPhone brings them back.
What isn't backed up?
Anything from Apple Health stays on your iPhone. On a new iPhone, the app reads your workouts from Apple Health again. Films are made again too.
How do I delete my account?
Settings › Account › Delete account deletes your account and your backup. It doesn't cancel a subscription: cancel that as above.
Your data
How do I delete everything?
Settings › Delete all films and projects removes every project, film and imported file from the app. Films you saved to Photos stay there.
